Our Story

“CUTRONE is something of a mood band, achieving a focused, dynamic vibe that lacks definition”
Toronto indie duo, CUTRONE, create anthemic pop songs that cleverly combine inventive hooks, memorable lyrics and imaginative song structures.  With both male and female lead singers, CUTRONE songs are able to capitalize on the diverse tones and sounds that each voice brings to the band.  Songs have a distinctive “CUTRONE” sound that is able to transgress genres as diverse as synth-wave, pop and hard rock to country, reggae and world music.
CUTRONE is set to release their new synth-pop single, “Summerland”, on June 22, 2019.  The follow-up single, a reggae/pop-tinged anthem called, “Fake News”, is slated for release in 2020.  Ultimately, CUTRONE will release their sophomore album, titled Fake News, in 2020.  Much like their debut album, Fight Or Flight, the new album will once again challenge the listener with a diverse palette of songs and videos that again will have catchy hooks, big choruses, and thought-provoking lyrics containing plenty of drama and vibrant imagery.
Formed in 2016, CUTRONE have assembled an eclectic catalog of songs that can't be defined by a specific genre.  CUTRONE songwriting blends a certain controlled perfectionism with an inspired creativity that derives from the everyday and results in an unexpected intersection of two parallel spheres which serve to offer something genuinely new.
After losing their homes, marriages and jobs in 2012, Tony and Dawn both had to start back from the beginning to rebuild their lives and careers.  They met by chance in 2015 and, a short time later, formed their duo, CUTRONE, and started writing new music.  What started out as a passion project for friends and family only has now turned into regular gigs with a growing fan base as they get ready to release their second full-length album, Fake News, in 2020.
While Tony's vocals dominate the majority of tracks, Dawn's vocals contribute appealingly soft and hooky counterpoints to his haunting melodies and sometimes gritty lead vocals.  Whatever the genre, both their vocals compliment one another and form an intriguing and varied sound.
CUTRONE features Toronto couple, Dawn and Tony Cutrone, who met back in 2015.  Being lovers of 70s, 80s and 90s music, CUTRONE's influences range from The Doors, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Fleetwood Mac, David Bowie, Nirvana and Pearl Jam.  Their shared musical influences led to the formation of a project in which each member brings their skills, talents and experience to create CUTRONE.
A seasoned veteran to the music scene, Tony Cutrone is a Royal Conservatory-trained pianist and organist, a York University-trained bassist and guitarist, a prolific writer and accomplished singer with a music degree. Dawn is a trained vocalist with a university degree in film as well as having an extensive background in acting and musical theatre.
A whirlwind European tour supporting their debut CD, Fight Or Flight, in 2018, saw CUTRONE visit eleven different cities in eight different countries.  CUTRONE are now back with their second CD and, this time, are ready to take on the world!
